Accent is a photo-documentary magazine (although a little hard to define exactly) and the print extension of a successful website. Its mission is to collect ‘true stories about inspirational, extraordinary people who dare to live life on their own terms’.
London-based team Lucy Nurnberg and Lydia Garnett based the idea for Accent on their own experiences driving around the US south west and Mexico. This generated wealth of storytelling material by itself but the first issue of the magazine has a wider international sweep. The striking cover features multidisciplinary artist and HIV activist Kia Labeija, and stories inside include a man who ran away with three circuses on three different continents, the youth subculture photography of Derek Ridgers and 90s mexican street kids.
